Day 10

Actually, yesterday the pups were 10 days old, and I was very pleased to find that the smallest girl broke 8 oz.  The two white girl puppies (one has a wee bit of color on her left ear tip) were over 12 oz, and the two boys were in the 10 - 11 oz group.  I track their weight daily, twice a day the first few days and then once a day until their eyes open.  I was surprised that the two largest pups were struggling to stand already.  Their eyes and ears should begin to open this week end.  Kate spends increasing amounts of time away from them, and she reacts differently to each of the JRs in the house.  Gracie and Moose are fine as long they stay outside the room, their inquiring noses are only greeted with grumbles and growls when their noses stray beyond some line she drew at the door.  Lorelei, Kate won't tolerate even the sight of her.  She is out of the box, vaulted over the baby gate and challenging Lorelei the instant she sees her.   I've never known Lorelei to back down from any challenge, even as a pup. Socialization and acceptance issues with the pups will need to be very closely monitored.  Searching for names, time will bring them to me, although I've been informed by the boys that come by a few times a week to walk the dogs, that one of the boys is named Leon, I don't know which one or why, but one is a Leon.  I'll wait a few more days and then post updated photos.  Maybe about the time their eyes begin to open.
